What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical services from a remote location. It helps eliminate distance barriers and can improve access to services that would often not be consistently available in distant or rural communities. Video conferencing technologies now permit communications between the patient and provider with both convenience and consistency.

Are teletherapy and health information technologies (HIT) the same thing?

Teletherapy is the delivery of actual therapy services between remote locations. HIT is the digital record-keeping and sharing of health data including, but not limited to, patient history, prescription records and administrative services. While HIT does aid in the facilitation of teletherapy, it is not necessarily required for the delivery of care.

Will my private insurance plan cover your services?

At this time TeleTherapy Direct will not bill your insurance. You are required to pay for the services rendered using your credit card or a Health Savings Account (HSA) card. Upon completion of your session, you will receive a summary of your visit with the appropriate billing codes. This documentation can be used to support your claim as the insurance company decides whether to reimburse your cost or apply the amount to your deductible.

How do you prequalify your physical therapists? Are they accredited?

Every state individually licenses physical therapists. We ensure that our physical therapists are licensed to practice in your state. Our system allows you to only schedule appointments with therapists licensed in the state you are presently in. You can also confirm that your therapist is licensed in your state by going to your State Board of Physical Therapy and performing a license verification. Can I make an appointment for any time on any day?

We guarantee that you will be able to get an appointment within 24 hours, except Sundays and holidays. When scheduling your appointment, you will have the option of choosing your appointment time by date or by therapist. If there is not a time that is convenient for you, you can email our support team and we will make every effort to accommodate you.

How can I access your services?

You can access our network and make an appointment through any electronic device — whether desktop computer, smart phone or tablet — that has access to a high-speed Internet connection. The service is web-based. When logging in on a computer, the service will check to make sure that all programs are up to date and functioning appropriately to ensure an excellent experience. When logging in from a mobile device, you will need to download the app and use TeleTherapyDirect (all one word) when asked for your service key.

What is an online physical therapy session like?

An online session is, essentially, the same as an office visit, but from the convenience of a location of your choosing. You will be asked about your current symptoms, potential factors contributing to these symptoms, your history and what you would like to be accomplished through therapy. Using all of this information, your therapist will come up with a thorough assessment and exercise plan recommendations. This will be an ongoing conversation and can change if your needs change over time.

Can I see a physical therapist online if I am traveling or in another state?

Yes, just make sure to select the state you’re in under My Location and you’ll only see therapists licensed to see you in that state. When using the app, you can choose to update your current state based on mobile geolocation, making it faster to find a physical therapist, whether you are home or on the go.

Can I see a physical therapist if I am traveling outside of the United States?

TeleTherapy Direct currently operates within the United States only.

How secure is your network? Will people be able to access my medical records or personal information?

We feel it is of utmost importance to maintain patient privacy and keep information secure. Our service, provided through Amwell, is designed to be a private, secure, HIPAA-compliant tool that allows you to safely and confidentially consult with a therapist online. Furthermore, to ensure privacy and security of data, sessions are neither recorded nor stored.

How much does your service cost?

Creating an account is free. Through the use of technology, we are able to reduce the cost of providing services, which, in turn, reduces the cost of receiving them. Currently, each physical therapy visit is $49.

Can my kids see a therapist on TeleTherapy Direct?

Yes, we have physical therapists who are trained and experienced in treating children ages 10-17 with parental or guardian consent. However, the parent needs to add a sub-account to their own account to schedule an appointment for the child. TeleTherapy Direct requires that a parent or legal guardian be present during the appointment.

Can I get prescriptions written through your service?

In physical therapy, we cannot prescribe medication. However, we can prescribe exercise. For example, if a patient has shoulder pain, we can develop a program of exercises based on their history and our observations of their movement. Many of our physical therapists work in collaboration with other physicians to provide multi-disciplinary care.

Will my primary care provider be notified about my online therapy visit on teletherapy direct?

Yes, you can share the session notes with your primary care provider. You will be asked if you want a copy of your after-visit summary to be shared with your primary care provider. If you choose to share your after-visit summary, TeleTherapy Direct will fax or electronically transmit it. You can also print the notes and save them for your own files or share them with other healthcare professionals. You may also decide not to share this information. The choice is 100% yours.

What if I don’t like my physical therapist?

Your relationship with your physical therapist is an important part of getting successful treatment. Don’t hesitate to interview more than one therapist to find one who has the experience, qualifications, and professional skills that allow you to be the best you can be. A good therapist will respect your choice to do so.
